Rwandan smallholder farmers come together and organise themselves into cooperatives to elevate their coffees and processing capabilities, resulting in better prices for their produce. Wet mills that are unaffordable individually give communities the freedom to process their coffee together while keeping profits localised.

Abdul Rudahunda owns and operates a Simbi Washing Station that services close to 2000 smallholder farmers in the Huye region. Each of these farms is not much larger than one hectare per family.

Inspired by his grandmother’s love for coffee, Abdul entered his first production season in 2013 and hired 85 employees, of which, over 80% were female. In the same year, Simbi Coffee participated in the Rwanda cup of excellence and was impressively awarded 9th place in over 150 samples submitted. Simbis coffee quality continues to excel with Abdul refining processes through the years.

This Bourbon was processed using 100% fully matured red cherries and dried for 24 hours undercover before spending 15-18 days uncovered on African drying beds. Ripe red apple, fresh mint, and hazelnut notes are all expected flavours in this lightly roasted coffee.
