Luis Anibal - Washed Caturron - 250g
Luis Anibal Calderon was born into a coffee-growing family and started to work in the fields at the age of 12. By the time Luis was 15, his father offered him a piece of his land and he began to save the profits and after 6 years of dedication, Luis became
the proud owner of his first farm. Fast forward to the age of 40, Luis bought Villa Betulia where he now resides with his wife and 3 children.
Initially, Luis planted Villa Betulia with Castillo and Caturra when in 2012 he decided to invest in 5000 Gesha trees. Seeing the huge success that came with his Gesha, Anibal decided to fill his farm with exotic varieties, and is renowned for producing some of the highest quality coffee in Colombia.
The Caturron variety is a rare mutation of Caturra found for the first time in Acevedo, Huila. Growers started planting Caturron due to its resistance to leaf rust and high yield. But it wasn’t until 2016 that the exotic cup profile of Caturron was identified.
This Caturron micro-lot was exposed to aerobic fermentation for a minimum of 24 hours. It was then placed in grain pro bags for 50 hours with care taken to ensure temperatures stayed below 22 degrees. Finally, the coffee was pulped, gently washed, and placed on raised beds until ideal moisture content was achieved.
