La Chumeca Micromill is a family-run business led by Martin Ureña, who started to produce specialty coffees in 2015. Martins’ farms currently focus on natural coffees only and he proactively looks to improve processes and work on new experimentations.

Due to the high altitude of the farm, temperatures can vary a lot in the same day, meaning, the most challenging and skilled part of Martin’s farming processes is to constantly work around the climate. Emilio, who is Martin Ureña’s son, believes that every step of the process is key to good coffee and is vital to control. As part of their commitment to quality, they hire seven pickers from the same family each year who are trained to select only the best-matured fruits.

Martin is heavily involved with the coffee community in Costa Rica and believes it is important to develop specialty coffee locally. He endorses his beliefs by offering support where possible. Notably, providing barista competitors with coffees and selling green coffee in Costa Rica.
